The word courage is defined as “the ability to do something that frightens one”. Got your attention? The definition certainly got mine. It is always inspiring to watch someone else attempt something courageous but it is quite another thing to do it ourselves. The first steps can leave you exposed, fearful and unsure. Yet somehow when we get to other side we are filled with empowerment, excitement and the motivation to try something new again. Why does pushing through the fear take so much courage?!
Recently there have been many examples of courage in my life: friends returning to the job force, going back to school and my daughters in college (one beginning her journey and one ending hers). It made me realize that it takes courage simply to start and it also takes courage to end strong. Often the ending requires extra courage as you begin thinking about the next steps in life. It is times such as these in which I am so thankful to have God in my life. Times when I have come to the end of me, of knowing the next step or next path, and believe in my heart He will guide me.
Where are you? Have you had the courage recently to “go for it” and try something new? Or are you standing on the diving board weighing the pros and cons? Can I encourage you this weekend to not just jump, but cannon ball into the water with a giant smile on your face?! Not only will it refresh you, but it will inspire those around you to live big as well!
