Fade was a word that did not evoke a lot of emotion in me until recently. It reminds me of a men’s hair style, my jeans and Fade to Black (a popular Metallica song which is actually quite sad). This week while listening to K-LOVE radio there were two distinct songs about fade that caught my attention. One by Casting Crowns, emphasizing the effects and the slow fade of perpetual crappy choices we make and how it can wreck our lives. The other by Jeremy Camp encouraging us to let our old way of life that was unhealthy to fade away.
Jeremy’s song is my favorite of all three. It got me thinking – where and what in my life am I allowing to fade? It can be a positive or a negative; but always a choice. Am I allowing fear to fade as I pursue my calling to share my life in the hopes of encouraging others? Or do we slide back into comfortable routines and habits that do not enhance our lives?
The official definition of fade (as a noun) is “the process of becoming less bright.” My hope is that we always shine bright, especially in the areas that make us special and unique. I equally hope the crutches in my life – the need for others approval, fear of saying no and allowing myself to check-out sometimes, will begin to dim to the point they can no longer be seen. What areas of your life need to fade?
