It is here – the most wonderful time of the year! Do you find it ironic how the busy-ness of December is also mixed with the expectation to rest and find peace during the holidays? I chuckle at the idea we are supposed to find a great gift for nearly every person in our life, cook, clean, wrap, work, (add in your activities here) AND take in each moment, remember the Reason for the Season as well as find time to spend with friends and family. I am not sure if it is a trap or the ultimate test of finding balance in each day.
Recently I came across a great article on how “hurry” is different than “hustle”. When we hurry – we rush, often times skipping important steps or doing tasks with a “that’s good enough” attitude. Hustle, on the other hand, is focused, driven, detail-oriented and energetic activity. Our hustle can propel us to new heights and greater successes. One of my favorite hustle quotes came from a Bible app devotional which states, “there is a sequence to trusting and hustling that honors the Lord and brings us true rest”.
This is the new equation I am trying to work into my 2020 lifestyle: Trust + Hustle = Rest. Rinse and repeat. I am interpreting this as I will trust God with my talents and will hustle in the direction He leads me. The rest will come when we can look back at how He led us, take a deep breath (rest); then do it again. If this topic of hustle vs. hurry is hitting home with you, may I challenge you to finish out December with 2 great devotionals that are quick and free on the Bible App?: 1. The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry (a 5-day devotional) followed by 2. Trust, Hustle, and Rest (a 4-day devotional). Details on how to download both are below.
Resources/Inspiration:
Bible App Download:
- Download the Bible app (see photo below) and Sign Up
- Click on “Plans” at the bottom of the screen
- Click on the Search icon (at the top right of the screen)
- Search for “Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” and click to start (same for Trust, Hustle, and Rest).
Note: The Bible app defaults to the King James version, which can be difficult to read. To change it click on the “KJV” next to the book of the Bible (when it takes you to your first verse) and select “ERV” which is much easier to read and understand! If you have any questions – feel free to email me at heynancy@nancydeanne.com and I can call or email you to help walk you through it.
