“Home is where the heart is” – I love that saying! We have all been spending so much time at home and it has me reflecting on what brings peace to our homes. Whether we have homes we love or are in a transitional place; at the end of the day I think we all want to feel at peace. I mentioned hygge in my last blog and let me tell you, the Danish culture got it right when creating this cozy, peaceful atmosphere called hygge.
Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) is defined as a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being. Hot cocoa by the fire, dim lights, wrapped in a blanket while reading a book, snuggling with your loved ones (or loved pets) – all of these things are hygge and I have been doing my best to add them into my daily life. It encourages us to slow down a little and enjoy those around us.
Tomorrow is Inauguration Day in our country – for some it is exciting and for others it is disappointing. Whatever side of the spectrum you are on – let us treat each other with love. If that means creating a bit more hygge, prayer or space in your life to extend love to the other side, I hope you will do it! What we think is reflected in what we say. May we fill ourselves with God’s love so that we are at peace and can spread it to others who need it too.
Resources/Inspiration –
Books that Inspire Getting Rid of Clutter (these 2 are my favorites!)
Does this Clutter Make my Butt Look Fat by Peter Walsh – yes, you read that right. Peter is hilarious and not only helps get rid of clutter in your home, but what we eat as well (I’m still a sugar-fanatic, but my house is decluttered – HA!).
The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. She is amazing and if you don’t like reading, you can watch her show on Netflix.
My all-time favorite verse on peace
Romans 12:18 (NLT), “Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.”
Let’s pair it with a beautiful verse about love
I Corinthians 13:4-6 (NLT), “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.”
