Happy Saturday my friends and what an odd one it is in the world right now. I pray you are well – both physically and mentally. It was a struggle to write this week as so many things feel unknown and a bit out of sorts. I was not sure if Peru was the best topic to write on and then it occurred to me that service is not only a great thing to write on during these times but also a wonderful way to live during confusing times. The more we help each other, truly, the more we help ourselves. Collectively, even with “social distancing” (a new word to me), we can come together.
Peru was amazing in every way. The people – from our host family and my new friend and translator Becky, the teachers at the schools we visited to the children and families we met – were welcoming, filled with love and all had a heart of giving, service and community. Every day we visited a different “club” (a school-like setting where kids go after-school to do homework, learn about God, have a hot meal and just be kids!). We were greeted with beautiful welcome signs, dance performances, singing and even baking class samples. The pictures say it all and it is my hope to return next year. A huge thank you to those who shopped at the Sip & Shop Event last month. We were able to buy extra food and school supplies to donate to these sweet communities in Lima.
There are so many ways we can give in our own, local communities. Below are a few ideas to help inspire a movement of Intentional Acts of Kindness to help build hope and love:
- Text a loved one or friend (especially those who are older to check on them)
- Donate to your local food bank who is helping children dependent on free and reduced lunch programs. (Feeding America is a great one to support in San Diego)
- Join in on the National Day of Prayer | Sunday, March 15th
- Send a sweet note in the mail to brighten someones day!
Resources/Inspiration:
Verse: Hebrews 13:1-2 (MSG): “Stay on good terms with each other, held together by love. Be ready with a meal or a bed when it’s needed. Why, some have extended hospitality to angels without ever knowing it!”
Sermons: Here are a couple of links to amazing sermons, as most churches are not meeting this week.
North Coast Church has a great series on the book of Acts. Andy Stanley has an awesome media library of sermons.
Christian Guided Meditations: Great for when you feel overwhelmed and need to reset.
K-LOVE Radio: Ask Alexa to play this station when the news has been on too long!
